MAYALAND joins forces for responsible work… |
| | Mayan Land is the trademark under which non-timber products extracted from the forest in Petén, Guatemala are commercialized; in a framework that is responsible with the environment and with the habitants of the Mayan Biosphere. Three communities and their organizations, Carmelita, Uaxactún/Omyc and San Andrés/Afisap have been benefited with a 25 year forest concession, extracting in a responsible manner non-timber products such as Xate, pepper, gum and others. This is their main form of subsistence, combined with some products for tourism and family orchards. Timber products are also commercialized and the trees are cut down taking into account a forest sustainability system that guarantees its conservation. | |
